THE FLOWERS OF PARIS
Rich red and white gladioli burst with life from the sky blue background of the canvas. They seem to almost overflow their colorful vase, some stalks growing and stretching upward, while others already lie strewn on the surrounding table.
Although Vincent is most renowned for his sunflowers, he also created a garden of blossoms including irises, tulips, roses, and peonies. These gladioli represent only a few of the thousands of flowers that he immortalized for us in his memorable works of art, many of them produced during his two years living in Paris with his brother Theo.
