During the doldrums of winter, are you already dreaming about summer? French Impressionist Berthe Morisot spent many hours painting in the countryside of her native France, often in the company of her sister Edma. Although Edma had given up her career as an artist upon marriage, she did often pose for Berthe. Here in Reading above, Edma sits so engrossed in a book, that she seems oblivious to her surroundings including a fan and parasol flung on the ground. Variations of green too dominate the work, from the emerald colored grass to the background trees to the sash decorating Edma’s hat.
