British master Dante Gabriel Rossetti, born on Monday 197 years ago, is famed for his striking portraits of unusually beautiful women. In this case, Lilith who was said to be the first wife of Adam, combing a cascade of lustrous red hair while focused on her own alluring image. Flowers adorn the room including a display of delicate white roses and what is possibly a red poppy prominently placed in the foreground.
