The intense, red-bearded man sitting in a Parisian cafe, a glass of absinthe before him, so faint it appears to be disappearing into the atmosphere. Drawn with multi-colored pastel strokes by his friend Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, who probably sketches him from nearby.
Vincent would spend about two years in the French capital, then a major center of avant-garde art. Residing with his younger brother Theo, an art dealer who promoted then cutting-edge artists like Impressionist Claude Monet.
