A woman and her family are spending a long, lazy day within the peaceful beauty of the woods. The children are especially relaxed, content to be together with their mother or aunt.
Suddenly, The Apple Seller appears, peddling her wares–luscious, plump fruit picked from the nearest orchard. She is a graceful figure, courteously bending down towards her potential customers.
Will they buy? They certainly seem interested, even the dog scampering by.
The Apple Seller is just one of the thousands of works by Renoir, the great French Impressionist. His portraits of children are esecpially moving, beloved by millions today. For like his colleague Mary Cassatt, Renoir reproduced the very spirit of a child.
