Henri Rousseau, who created Tropical Forest with Monkeys above, never traveled beyond his native France. Instead this striking work of art is a result mainly of his dreams and imaginings as well as his visits to the botanical gardens and zoo in Paris. These fantastic landscapes are often visions of lush vegetation inhabited by a variety of animals from powerful lions and tigers to exotic flamingoes.
