Are you wishing that spring was already here? So you might enjoy a fabulous bouquet of multi-colored flowers and approximately 20 varieties as seen above. We know, though, that such perfection cannot be real. Yet, what about the brilliant blue curtain, possibly made of satin material? Can we really pull it aside? Or is it a “trompe l’oeil,” a trick of the eye, utilized by the Dutch artist Frans van Mieris, creating an optical illusion of a three dimensional object actually painted in oil on a flat panel.
However, Trompe-L’Oeil Still Life with a Flower Garland and a Curtain is a collaboration of Mieris with countryman Adriaen van der Spelt who created the garland, both painters working during the Dutch Golden Age.
