This attentive mother and her litter represented above are no ordinary dogs. Their home the imperial palace of one of the Mughal emperors who reigned in India from the 16th to the mid-19th century. Yet, the tiny pups still have to struggle like any new-born canines, no matter the pedigree—their eyes likely still unopened, dependent mainly on smell to navigate in what must seem a challenging and confusing world.
