Few artists can rival Claude Monet’s extraordinary color. Still Life with Flowers and Fruit was actually done early in his career when he was still developing a new style of painting known today as Impressionism. However, here, it is evident that Monet has already mastered the depiction of the abundant bouquet and variety of fruits, recreating their form as well as texture. For can’t you almost touch the surface of the flower petals or the skin of the apples, grapes and pears? Even the tablecloth seems real, painted with the thick brushstrokes utilized by Monet.
