Can you almost hear the strumming of the strings? Music was a favorite theme of the iconic Impressionist Renoir who often depicted subjects like the lovely young woman above, either playing the guitar or piano. In this case, his model is attired in a richly patterned Spanish costume; plus the jaunty combination of scarf as well as hat.
Renoir in his youth was recognized as a promising singer, but unfortunately his family could not afford the proper voice training. So he ultimately pursued a career as painter for some 60 years and created approximately thousands of works of art. Can you imagine how different the history of Impressionism would have been without Renoir’s brilliant contribution?
