A FAREWELL TO VINCENT
This month will mark the 134th anniversary of iconic artist Vincent van Gogh’s death, for, on July 27, 1890 Vincent shot himself, dying two days later. He was only 37 years old. Our blog during the rest of July will highlight the often powerful works of art he created in Auvers-sur-Oise, France during the last months of his life.

After spending a year (from May, 1889-May, 1890) in the asylum of Saint-Remy in the south of France, Vincent traveled north to Auvers-sur-Oise some 16 miles from Paris. There Vincent would be treated by physician and art lover Dr. Gachet, who encouraged him to continue painting.
While in Auvers, Van Goght stayed at the inn of Arthur Ravoux. Always looking for models, Vincent asked the innkeeper’s daughter Adeline to pose for at least three portraits. However, she is said to have disliked the results.* Do you think Adeline was justified in her opinion?
