Zinaida Serebriakova, Katya in Blue Dress by Christmas Tree, 1922, medium unknown, location unknown

Zinaida Serebriakova, the painter of Katya in Blue Dress by Christmas Tree, is one of the countless artists who remains relatively unknown today.  She had a successful career in Russia where she was born in 1884, but war and revolution disrupted her life.  Serebriakova’s husband died of typhus after the Russian Revolution and she was later forced to live in exile in Paris, resulting in separation from two of her four children.

Katya in Blue Dress by Christmas Tree, said to be done in 1922 (although I’m not certain of its present location), is possibly a portrait of her daughter Catherine and a memory of a happier time.

The above image by Serebriakova (1884-1967) is used solely for educational purposes.
