How quiet the woods are today….not a murmur except the soft wind purring in the tree tops!  It sounds like surf on a faraway shore.

L. M. Montgomery, On November, Anne of Avonlea, 1909

American artist Lovell Birge Harrison (1854-1929) created Novembre early in his career, while still studying in France; after his return to the United States, he established himself both as a landscape painter and teacher.  Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) immortalized the character of orphan Anne Shirley and her life on Prince Edward Island, in a series of books beginning with Anne of Green Gables, still popular today.
