Impressionist Claude Monet (1840-1926) grew up by the sea, off the coast of Normandy in northern France.  Although he spent most of his career living mainly by the Seine River, near Paris, he always returned to the ocean on his painting campaigns, particularly at Etretat, famed for its dramatic cliffs.
