Arts Everyday Living: Through the Eyes of Klimt & A Fellow Artist–Women of Grace & Delicacy

Gustav Klimt, Sonja Knips, 1898, oil on canvas, Belvedere, Vienna, Austria

Today Austrian icon Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) is internationally renowned, especially for works like The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.  His portrayal of Sonja Knips above is an early painting, already demonstrating his ability to recreate the beauty and spirit of the subject. Irish painter Stanhope Forbes (1857-1947) is not as well known; his Contemplation below captures the delicacy and ethereal quality of the sitter.
