Autumn is often considered nature’s most mellow time, without the sometimes extreme conditions of summer and winter. For what can be more beautiful than a fall day, when you can still sit under the multi-colored leaves of the trees, taking advantage of the mild temperatures and soft breezes. Then perhaps go indoor and slice yourself a pear or two, along with drinking some white wine. While reading the letter, projecting out from the edge of the painting; apparently addressed to the artist, Sanford Robinson Gifford, although it is not easy to decipher. He is best known for his dramatic landscapes, especially of the Hudson River Valley, where he was raised.
