Alfred Sisley, The Meadow at Veneux-Nadon, 1881, oil on canvas, Museum Barberini, Potsdam, Germany

French Impressionist Alfred Sisley (1839-1899) may not enjoy the iconic fame of his friend and colleague Claude Monet (1840-1926).  However, few artists expressed the beauty of the changing seasons with such a sense of poetry as well as reverence for the cycles of nature.
