French artist Louise Abbema (1853-1927) is an example of the increasing prestige of women painters in the late nineteenth century, from new art educational opportunities to growing professional acceptance in areas such as portraiture.  Both she and Impressionist Renoir (1840-1919) recreated the vitality and spirit of actress Jeanne Samary (1857-1890), though utilizing different styles.
