I have touched with a sense of art some people—they felt the love and the life.  Can you offer me anything to compare to that joy for an artist?

Mary Cassatt

I haven’t been able to find an exact tally of the dozens of works by Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) devoted to the mother and child theme.  But a large number of them were executed like Mother Combing Her Child’s Hair above in pastel. A medium with its energetic, sketch-like strokes which enabled the Impressionist artist to recreate the immediacy and spontaneity of the maternal bond.
