Arts Everyday Living: Take Another Journey into the World of the Colorful Realm

Peonies and Small Birds is another of the fabulous 30 silk scroll set, Colorful Realm of Living Beings, by the eighteenth century Japanese master Ito Jakuchu, now on exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.  One of the artist’s seals found on Peonies and Small Birds is inspired by the words of Zen monk Ko Yugai (or generally known as the Old Tea Seller) written in praise of Jakuchu and his masterpiece:

“Enlivened by his hand, his paintings are filled with a mysterious spirit.”
