Today we are celebrating the works of art of Dutch artist Therese Schwartze (1851-1918) who spent most of her career in Amsterdam where she was born.  The daughter of a painter, she was renowned as a portraitist, depicting a range of subjects from this poignant portrayal of three orphans above to members of the royal family.
