HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RENOIR

TOP MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

OF HIS WORKS OF ART

__________

Happy Birthday for the 174th time to Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir!  He was born this day on February 25, 1841 in Limoges, France and, by his death at 78 on December 3, 1919, the artist had created several thousand works of art including paintings, drawings, pastels, and sculptures. So, unlike with Vermeer (see: Monday’s blog), attempting to take a virtual tour of Renoir’s vast production (only Picasso surpasses him in output) would be a challenge, if not impossible.

However, I’ve provided a few links to some of the outstanding Renoir museum collections (the Barnes Foundation has 181 alone), which are primarily in France and the United States. Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to locate Woman with a Rose, probably privately owned, but you can enjoy her exquisite beauty here.
