Although Spanish painter Juan Gris (1887-1927) created Fruit Dish with Bottle nearly a century ago, the painting may still puzzle museum goers today. Like his friend and countryman Pablo Picasso, Gris worked in the Cubist style, which shocked the art establishment in the early 1900s by its revolutionary depiction of everyday objects, without regard to the traditional rules of perspective, form, and space.
