Arts Everyday Living: Enter the Strange World of a Italian Master—Man or Fruit Basket or Both?

Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Fruit Basket, c. 1590, oil on panel, French and Company, New York, New York

Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526/1527-1593) was a court painter for Holy Roman Emperors Ferdinand and Rudolf II centuries ago. However, today he is best known for his unique and often startling anthropomorphic images–creative combinations of humans with fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other objects.
