Attributed to Moliere
French Symbolist painter Edmond Aman-Jean (1858-1936) was admired for his often captivating portrayals of women, while his own likeness has been immortalized by artist friend Georges Seurat. Playwright and actor Moliere (1622-1673) dominated the French stage during the reign of Louis XIV with comic works such as School for Wives and Tartuffe.
