Arts Everyday Living: Down to the Sea Again—From Quiet Waters to A Breezy Day in June

Viggo Johansen, Clouds are Gathering over Quiet Waters, 1889, oil on canvas, Private Collection

Danish artists Viggo Johansen (1851-1935) and Laurits Tuxen (1853-1927), like many of their colleagues, were drawn to the haunting coast of Skagen, in the northern part of Denmark. Each painter created his unique interpretation of the sea and sky, reflecting the emotional impact of nature on the very souls of human beings.
