THE MYSTERIOUS ARTIST

Attributed to Josephine Bowes, Portrait of a Dog, date unknown, oil on canvas, Bowes Museum, Newgate, Barnard Castle, UK

Saint Basil
Was art collector Josephine Bowes (1825-1874), who founded, along with her husband the Bowes Museum in Great Britain, actually the artist of the endearing Portrait of a Dog? Greek saint and bishop Saint Basil (330-379 A.D.) was a key figure in establishing the early Christian church.
