The soul is healed by being with a child.*

Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Carl Froschl, Sweetness of Grapes, n.d., oil on panel, location unknown

Barely any information is available on Austrian artist Carl Froschl (1848-1934) and his paintings are accessible mainly on auction websites.  Portraits of children seemed to be his speciality like Sweetness of Grapes (the title translated from German) which I couldn’t resist.

In contrast to Froschl, Russian literary giant Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) usually wrote of humanity’s struggle with sin and redemption in iconic novels such as Crime and Punishment and Brothers Karamasov.  However his quote above probably reflects the author’s close relationship with his daughters and sons, as well as his faith in the healing power of a baby, toddler, or young girl or boy.
