THE BEAUTIFUL JOURNALIST
A PORTRAIT BY THE ITALIAN JOHN SINGER SARGENT
Imagine a lady with a lightning wit, a merciless sense of humor, a skill in journalism surpassing any interviewer….
George Bernard Shaw, Speaking of Lady Colin Campbell
Whether in paint or in words, both Italian portraitist Giovanni Bolding (1842-1931) and Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) seem to be similarly entranced by Edwardian beauty and journalist Elizabeth Gertrude Blood, Lady Colin Campbell. However, Campbell would attract scandal as well as condemnation from society because of the failure of her marriage and subsequent divorce.
