THE ART OF SERENITY
AUTUMN DAYS, HEALING THOUGHTS
……The calm repose of autumn days,
Steals quietly o’er the troubled breast,
Soothing life’s weary cares to rest.*
A Song of October
Swiss artist Arnold Bocklin (1827-1901) is best known for his often haunting works like Autumn Thoughts above, poetic in quality, yet also touched with a sense of melancholy. Unfortunately little information is available on this painting as well as Phebe A. Holder, the author of “A Song of October,” published in the Queries Magazine in 1890.
