OCTOBER MORNING
THROUGH AN ARTIST’S EYES
I’m so glad that I live in a world where there are Octobers.
L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
Lucy Maud Montgomery was a Canadian writer whose series Anne of Green Gables, about an orphan living on Prince Edward Island, still attracts a readership more than a century after its publication in 1908. Willard Metcalf (1858-1925) is ranked as one of the leading American Impressionists; although he created landscapes for every season, his autumn scenes of the New England countryside are especially moving.
