E. Phillips Fox (1865-1915), the artist of the The Green Parasol above, might have been born and raised in Melbourne, Australia, but by his early twenties, he was living in Paris. He would spend several years in France, initially from1887-1892 and then from about 1908 -1913.
The Green Parasol, created in 1912, is set in Fox’s Parisian garden, where his friend painter Edith Anderson poses with her dog in a paradise of sparkling color and light even Monet would envy.
Information about the painting is from the website of the National Gallery of Australia.
