Dutch Golden Age artist Gerard ter Borch (1617-1681) is remembered for his genre scenes of everyday life.  Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) was a leading novelist and thinker of the first half of the twentieth century, writing several books including the futuristic Brave New World.
