Any of various mammals of the family Leporidae, especially of the genus Lepus, similar to rabbits but having longer ears and legs and giving birth to active, furred young.

Hare above has a rather complicated history.  Although done by 16th century German artist Hans Hoffmann (1530?-1591), it is actually a copy of an earlier work of Northern Renaissance master Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), including the signature.
