God loved the flowers and invented soil.  Man loved the flowers and invented vases.

Jacques Deval

French artist Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940) is often defined as a practitioner of intimism, an art movement rooted in the home interiors and middle-class daily living of late nineteenth and early twentieth century France. I mainly know that Jacques Deval (1895-1972) was a French playwright and screenwriter; I could not find the source of the quote above.
